The Challenge
Storage demand was growing and the server room needed a cleaner, more maintainable layout. Network cabling and patch-panel organization, physical equipment placement, cooling and airflow all mattered to reliability and future serviceability.
My Role
I led the server-room refresh project, including equipment planning, rack installation coordination, patch-panel rewiring and introducing new NAS storage to support growing capacity needs.
Approach & Implementation
- Planned and coordinated installation of a rack for server-room equipment.
- Organized patch-panel rewiring to improve cable management and traceability.
- Added NAS storage to address growing storage requirements.
- Considered equipment layout, temperature and airflow while arranging the room.
- Worked with vendors and internal stakeholders to coordinate the physical refresh and service requirements.
Business Impact
- Improved physical organization and maintainability of infrastructure.
- Added storage capacity for future business growth.
- Created a more structured environment for troubleshooting and future expansion.
- Helped align physical infrastructure work with wider backup and security improvement plans.
Outcome & Lessons
This project addressed the physical layer of IT reliability — the space, cabling and storage underneath the systems employees depend on.
