The Challenge
New and acquired offices needed working connectivity, Wi-Fi, cameras, access-control integrations and employee technology without placing all design and deployment work on external providers. Each site had different physical layouts and operational requirements.
My Role
I designed network plans for new locations and worked with cabling, alarm and access-control vendors to deliver the required infrastructure. I also helped remodel the network environment for an acquired glass-shop business.
Approach & Implementation
- Launched a new Kamloops office, including network design and coordination of structured cabling.
- Sourced and coordinated alarm and access-control work through vendors.
- Designed network layouts for three additional offices and planned UniFi systems, network drops and camera connectivity.
- Worked on integrating new sites with the main office using SD-WAN.
- Remodeled the network for an acquired glass-shop business, deploying UniFi networking and new cameras.
- Coordinated device and account readiness for employee onboarding, including laptops, work phones and Microsoft 365 access.
Business Impact
- Provided a more consistent technology baseline for new and acquired offices.
- Reduced the chance of employees arriving before their essential accounts and equipment were ready.
- Made network and security requirements part of office planning rather than last-minute additions.
- Supported an expanding estate of approximately 16 offices plus remote employees.
Outcome & Lessons
The work brings together technical design, project coordination, procurement and vendor management — with the goal of making new sites usable, supportable and consistent with the wider environment.
